Surgeons
Dr. Daniel J. Boedeker
Dr. Boedeker grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated with distinction from the University of Oklahoma in 1996 with a B.S. in Zoology. Dr. Boedeker received his Medical Doctorate degree in 2000 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He completed his Neurosurgery residency in 2006 at the Baylor College of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, Texas. Dr. Boedeker was trained in all areas of Neurosurgery, with specific emphasis on complex spinal disorders, brain tumors, and vascular lesions.
Dr. Boedeker began private practice in 2006 at Neurosurgery Specialists as a general neurosurgeon. He provides care to patients who are experiencing problems within the brain, the spine, and peripheral nerves such as carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve disorders. Dr. Boedeker's areas of special interest include brain tumors; minimally invasive approach to pituitary tumors; complex spine and spinal instrumentation; aneurysm and AVM surgery; minimally invasive neuroendoscopy and stereotactic radiosurgery.
Dr. Boedeker is currently in the process of submitting for certification from the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. Professional affiliations include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Medical Association, Oklahoma State Medical Association, Tulsa County Medical Society, and the Houston Neurological Society.
Dr. Chris Covington
Christopher G. Covington graduated from Stanford University and received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. His surgical internship and neurosurgical residency were completed at University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Covington now serves as a Clinical Associate Professor for the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa.
Dr. Covington is trained in the use of X-knife, the operating microscope, stereotactic radiation of brain tumor, stereotactic brain surgery, computer enhanced guidance systems, endoscopic spinal surgery, micro spinal surgery and spinal instrumentation for cervical, thoracic and lumbar fixation.
Dr. Covington is a member of the American Medical Association, Oklahoma State Medical Association, Tulsa County Medical Society, Tulsa Surgical Society, Tulsa Neurological Society, American Association of Neurosurgical Surgeons, Congress of Neurosurgical Surgeons, and the Rocky Mountain Neurological Society. Dr. Covington was past President of the Rocky Mountain Neurological Society. He was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1989.
Dr. David A. Fell
Dr. Fell graduated from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut in 1966 with a B.A. in Psychology. Dr. Fell received his Medical Doctorate degree in 1970 from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed his Neurosurgery residency in 1975 from the Baylor College of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Fell served as a Captain in the United States Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976, and began private practice in 1975 at Neurosurgery Specialists. He provides care to patients who are experiencing problems with the brain, the spine, and the peripheral nerves, such as carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve disorders. Dr. Fell was trained in all areas of Neurosurgery. His areas of special interest include brain tumors, spinal surgery, kyphoplasty, and stereotactic radiosurgery.
Dr. Fell is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. Professional affiliations include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Rocky Mountain Neurosurgical Society, American Medical Association, Oklahoma State Medical Association, and the Tulsa County Medical Society.
Dr. Steve Gaede
Steven E. Gaede is a graduate of University of Oklahoma at Norman, Oklahoma and received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
His surgical internship was completed at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. He completed a Neurology and General Surgery residency at The University of Oklahoma Scence Center and his neurosurgical residency at the University of Missouri at Columbia. Dr. Gaede now serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery for the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa.
Dr. Gaede has received additional training including the use of the operating microscope, stereotactic radiation of brain tumor, stereotactic brain surgery, endoscopic spinal surgery, micro spinal surgery and spinal instrumentation for cervical, thoracic and lumbar fixation. In 1984-1985, he did extensive research developing multi-disciplinary protocols for blood brain barrier disruption in the treatment of intracranial tumors.
Dr. Gaede was named one of thirty investigators nationwide in the trial of neuro augmentative therapy for Parkinson's and essential tremors.
Dr. Gaede is a member of the American Medical Association, Oklahoma State Medical Association, the American Association of Neurosurgical Surgeons, the Congress of Neurosurgical Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Tulsa County Medical Society, and the Tulsa Neurological Society. He was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1991 and became a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons in 1993.
Dr. Douglas R. Koontz
Dr. Koontz grew up in Altus, Oklahoma. He graduated with distinction from the University of Oklahoma in 1977 with a B.S. in Microbiology. He received his Medical Doctorate degree with distinction in 1981 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He completed his Neurosurgery residency in 1987 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Dr. Koontz was trained in all areas of Neurosurgery.
In 1987, Dr. Koontz began a private practice in Enid, Oklahoma as a general neurosurgeon. In 1989, he moved to Des Moines, Iowa, establishing a neurosurgical practice. Dr. Koontz returned to Oklahoma and began private practice in 2004 at Neurosurgery Specialists as a general neurosurgeon. He provides care to those patients experiencing problems with the brain, the spine, and peripheral nerves such as carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve disorders. Dr. Koontz's areas of special interest include spine problems, specifically, motion preservation such as with artificial disc placement.
Dr. Koontz is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. Professional affiliations include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, North American Spine Society, American Medical Association, Oklahoma State Medical Association, Tulsa County Medical Society and he is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Kyle Mangels
Kyle J. Mangels graduated from the University of Oklahoma and received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He completed both his surgical internship and his neurosurgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Mangels now serves as a Clinical Instructor in Neurological Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
Dr. Mangels has published articles in Pediatric Neurosurgery and other journals.
Dr. Eric Sherburn
Eric W. Sherburn graduated from the University of Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship, neurological residency and pediatric neurosurgical residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Sherburn now serves as a Clinical Instructor in Neurological Surgery in the Department of Surgery of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is also an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and a member of the Missouri State Neurological Society, the Oklahoma State Medical Association and the Tulsa County Medical Society.
Dr. Sherburn has published in several medical journals including The Journal of Neurosurgery, Contemporary Neurosurgery and Pediatric Neurosurgery.
Dr. Frank Tomecek
Dr. Frank J. Tomecek is a graduate of DePauw University in Chemistry and received his medical degree from Indiana University. He completed his surgical internship and neurological spine residency at Henry Ford University and then completed an additional Neurosurgical Spine Fellowship at the University of Louisville Hospital.
Dr. Tomecek is a Clinical Associate Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery for the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine-Tulsa. He has received additional training including the use of the operating microscope, stereotactic radiation of brain tumor, stereotactic brain surgery, endoscopic spinal surgery, micro spinal surgery and spinal instrumentation for cervical, thoracic and lumbar fixation.
Dr. Tomecek’s professional affiliations include membership in the AMA, Delegate to the OSMA, Delegate to the TCMS, American Association of Neurosurgical Surgeons, Congress of Neurosurgical Surgeons, the Rocky Mountain Neurological Society, and President- elect of the Tulsa Neurosciences Society . Dr. Tomecek is also a member of the steering committee for the Brain injury association of Oklahoma, and lead physician investigator for the FDA study on Prospective Clinical Outcome Study Comparing Single Level Posterior Lumbar Interbody Instrumented Fusion Grafting techniques: rhBMP Vs. Autograph. He was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1999.
Dr. David White
Dr. David White specializes in diseases and surgery of the ear, including hearing and balance disorders.
Dr. White joined the Eastern Oklahoma Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic in 1994. A graduate of the University of Vanderbilt School of Medicine, Dr. White has been in private practice for nearly 20 years. He completed his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center. After completing his residency, Dr. White did a fellowship in Otology and Neurology at the Ear Research Foundation in Sarasota, Florida.
Dr. White is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is a member of the America Medical Association, the Tulsa County Medical Society, and the Medical Advisory Board of the Ear Research Foundation. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and a Fellow of the American Neurotology Society and the Otosclerosis Study Club.
